site 4

Site 4 conclusion

At our site we had non-tolerant macro invertebrates such as ten stoneflies, one mayfly and one caddisfly nymph. We also found one dead crawfish, three beetle larva, one dragonfly larva, and twelve aquatic worms. This meant that overall the water was pretty healthy.

Our stream had plenty of oxygen so lots of plant, and animal life could live there. During our first trip we saw a large school of fish. Threw out all the trips we had noticed how much the plant life had grown. It was greener every trip. We found plenty of interesting plants.

We found many other things such as a tire, trash, a canopy/ hide out,

frogs, moths, spiders, insects, and some other things. Dominic found the hide out when he was in the grass walking around

Our Water temperature changed slightly each time. But the average temperature was about 46 Degrees Celsius. Our ph test results cane back good 6.5. Our dissolved oxygen took 24 drops each time which equals 140%. Witch is great! As you can see we had a great Douglas creek experience.

macro-invertebrate

We got 10 stoneflys, 1 mayfly, 1 caddisfly, no dobsonflys, 3 fresh water shrimp, three beetle larva, 1 dead crawfish, 0 sowbugs, 1 dragonfly larva, 0 blackfly larva, 12 aquatic worms, and 0 leeches that means that we got a pretty healthy stream.  Because we got non tolerant water so they are very picky that means they have curtain places they like to live.

Site Survey May 4, 2012

Today we, site #4 are going to tell you a little bit of our site at Douglas creek.

First we will tell you about the riparian zone the left bank looking downstream is 50-100ft and our right bank looking downstream is over 100ft.

Now I will tell you about the vegetation. Our site has sparse conifer and 0% cover we have moderate deciduous trees and 5% cover, and moderate shrubs with 5% cover finally but not least abundant grasses and herbs 30% cover.

 The overhead canopy was 50-75%.

The channel has a flat bottom so that means we could walk in it.

The longitudinal pattern was straight, meandering and braided for me that’s pretty cool!

Bank stabilities has some erosion in some areas.

Reach habitat: number of riffles 10, number of pools 2, and percentage of riffles 10% and percentage of pools 2%.

The artificial structures: in stream reach dams, pipes and litter. The beaver dam was big and had litter and a pipe sticking out of the dam

Finally along the stream reach was a road and farming on the plateau.
